We support children with a demonstrated talent in the arts, education and sport through Variety Heart Scholarships – helping them take the next step in their development and pursue their goals.

Before You Apply

Variety Heart Scholarships are available to children aged 6 to 17 years who live in Queensland and are Australian citizens or permanent residents. Applicants must demonstrate an existing talent in the arts, education or sport and who are sick, experiencing disadvantage or living with disabilities in Queensland.

Each scholarship recipient will be awarded $5,000 to spend during the duration of the scholarship.

Documents Required to Apply

Don’t worry — most families already have these documents available.

Diagnosis Letter

(if your child is living with disability)

A letter from your child’s GP or paediatrician explaining their diagnosis. It must be dated within the last 3 months.

Two Support Letters

Can be from a therapist, allied health professional, teacher or coach explaining:

• Your child’s talent
• How your child will benefit from a scholarship

These letters must be dated and not be more than 3 months old.

Proof of Household Income

• Income statements
• Support letter/s
• 3 recent payslips, and/or
• A Centrelink statement

If self-employed: Your latest tax return or Notice of Assessment.

How the Application Process Works

Application

1 July - 31 August 2026
We invite Variety Heart Scholarship applications from across Queensland.

Assessment

1-15 September 2026
Our committee carefully reviews applications before presenting them to the Variety QLD board for approval.

Outcome

28 September 2026
We will announce the 2026/27 Variety Heart Scholarship recipients.

Variety Heart Scholarships are available to children aged 6 to 17 years who live in Queensland and are Australian citizens or permanent residents. Applicants must demonstrate an existing talent in The Arts, Sport or Education and who are sick, experiencing disadvantage or living with disabilities in Queensland.  

Each scholarship recipient will be awarded $5,000 to spend during the duration of the scholarship. 

Scholarship funding can be used for costs that are directly related to developing the child’s talent, including: 

  • Fees
  • Training
  • Lessons or tuition (excluding school tuition fees)
  • Entry or competition costs
  • Courses
  • Equipment and uniforms
  • Supplies and learning resources
  • Maintenance or repairs of essential equipment
  • Travel and accommodation for the child where required to attend competitions or events

2026 Heart Scholarships are valid for 12 months, from October 2026 to September 2027. All approved funds must be used within this period. Any unspent funds after 12 months will be rescinded. 

Scholarship recipients are required to complete a 6 and a 12-month survey and may be asked to share updates on their progress throughout the year. 

All applications must include the supporting documentation: 

  • Income evidence for both parent or carers, such as recent payslips, Centrelink statements or a Health Care Card 
  • A support letter from a professional connected to the child’s talent, such as a coach, teacher or tutor 
  • A medical diagnosis letter from the child’s doctor or paediatrician (if required) 
  • A support letter and referee details from a professional connected to the child’s talent 

Support letters must clearly explain the child’s existing talent, relevant achievements and how the scholarship will help them progress.
